Rafting

From Wimberley, head south on R.M. 12, which offers a scenic back-road route to New Braunfels, where the Guadalupe River and Comal River merge. You’ll want to stay in one of the historic hotels or bed-and-breakfasts in the area to experience the charm of this German settlement.

Swimmers will want to visit Hinman Island park, which is situated less than a mile downstream from the largest collection of natural springs in the state, Comal Springs, and just upstream from the infamous “chute.” The chute is the city-owned tube run with white-water rapids. The dropoff that leads to the chute sets you in crystal-clear, deep-blue water that is great for swimming and floating.

Younger swimmers will enjoy the Landa Park Pool. A massive palm tree looms over the sparkling water of this Olympic-size pool that is surrounded by spring-fed waters, fun slides and a giant water-squirting mushroom. You can also unwind with a game of miniature golf or a glass-bottom boat ride.

There are plenty of dining options in New Braunfels, ranging from national food chains to local favorites. The German influence is prevalent here, which offers some nice hearty cuisine choices, and then there is always good barbecue and lighter fare to try.
