Head east on Highway 29 and take your time touring Burnet, Liberty Hill and Georgetown. By the time you reach Taylor, you’ll be craving more barbecue. You’ll find Louie Mueller’s BBQ in an old brick building on main street Taylor. You know you’re getting real home cookin’ when you walk through the screen door into the heavenly smell of wood-smoked barbecue. Louie’s has been smoking meat over a brick pit and serving it up on butcher paper with all the sides for more than 50 years. Be sure to order the homemade beef sausage that made Louie Mueller’s famous.

Just down the street is Rudy Mikeska’s Bar-B-Q. Rudy started smoking and serving up barbecue just after World War II and the second and third generations have carried on the saucy tradition, making the Mikeskas the first family of Texas barbecue. This is the flagship restaurant where it all started. Taste anything on the menu -- slow-smoked brisket, spicy sausage and succulent chicken – and you’ll see why people just keep coming back for more.
