Settled 1854 and named for scenic river on which it is located. Seat of San Saba County; agricultural area producing wool, mohair, cattle, horses, hogs and poultry. City is also widely known for its pecan crops, which are shipped worldwide. San Saba and Colorado Rivers are popular with campers and anglers. During autumn-winter seasons, hunters take white-tailed deer, wild turkey, squirrel and native game birds.
